Fron… what?
Front-end developers, or also known as frontend developers or web developers, optimise and develop websites. This includes the implementation of the layout and the client-side programming – exactly how the customer may and will see it in the end. A front-end developer works closely together with the back-end developer, who programs the server, and the web designer, who designs the website.
Functions of a Front-end Developer
In addition to the usually constant associated time pressure, front-end developers bundle all information very carefully that the programming code remains clear. Later, the correct software should be created in such a way that no security holes suddenly appear when the library is updated. The intuition for the website design and its implementation is also a big advantage.
Competencies of a Front-end Developer
As a frontend developer, extensive knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript is a great advantage. Unfortunately, a course from 10 years ago is not enough, because a website should be oriented towards modern technology and thus be fully functional on desktops as well as on smartphones. Therefore, it is even more important that front-end developers are familiar with the respective CSS or JavaScript libraries when creating the responsive design and know which plug-ins are useful for the website. In addition to technical hard skills, corresponding soft skills are also nice-to-have for the job as a front-end developer. Every front-end developer should have a talent for communication and interpersonal skills. After all, teamwork makes the dream work! Front-end developers are frequently in direct contact with customers, explain the procedures to them and have to reject unrealistic ideas in a diplomatic manner.
